Ingredients:
Ingredients:
48 pierogies (I buy Mrs. T's, 48 pierogies will fill up a 5 qt crockpot) or Homemade, frozen
16 tablespoons unsalted butter (1 cup)
1 large white onion, chopped
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste

Optional - Susan adds crumbled bacon on top of each layer. You could also add sliced kielbasa. I've also added chicken broth and cream to create a gravy (which was yummy)

Directions:
Directions:
In a medium saucepan, melt butter and fry onion on medium-low heat, until onion is golden brown.

Layer the frozen pierogis in the crockpot.

Pour onion and butter over the layer of pierogis; add salt and pepper. (optional bacon or kielbasa too.)

Continue to layer until done.

Cook, on high, for 3 hours.

A few times during cooking, use tongs and gently re-arrange pierogis and ladle butter sauce to cover pierogies on top.

Turn to low or keep warm once pierogis are cooked and/or butter sauce begins to bubble.

Personal Notes:
You are asking "Why make pierogies in the crock pot?"

I found this works great to bring pierogis to someone's house, like on Thanksgiving. Also, if you don't want to bother cooking them and love the idea of having them ready to eat when you are!
