1½ C Raisins
2 C Water
1½ C Flour
1 tsp Soda
½ tsp each: Salt, Cloves, Nutmeg
¼ tsp Allspice
½ C Softened Butter
¾ C Sugar
1 Egg
1 C Chopped Walnuts
2 Tbsp Bourbon
Walnut Halves

Bourbon Hard-Sauce Frosting:
½ C Softened Butter or Margarine
3 C Confectioner's Sugar
1 Slightly Beaten Egg
1 Tbsp Bourbon

For Cake:

Simmer raisins and water uncovered 20 minutes. Drain, reserving ¾ cup liquid. Cool. Stir together flour, soda, salt, and spices. Set aside. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and beat until well blended. At low speed add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with reserved liquid. Stir in raisins, chopped walnuts, and bourbon. Put batter into two greased cake pans. Bake at 350º for 20 - 25 minutes. Frost with bourbon frosting.

Frosting:

Cream ½ C softened butter or margarine then gradually beat in the 3 cups confectioner's sugar, 1 slightly beaten egg, and 1 tablespoon bourbon until smooth.
