5 lbs. lard
1 box Babbits potash (lye)
1/4 lb. Borax
1 qt. cold water

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve the potash in water with the Borax. Have the lard blood warm and when the water gets cold, put in the lard, stir 15 mins. Take an old dripping pan and line with paper (or waxed paper or parchment paper). Pour mixture in and smooth off. Mark into cakes.

My dad always made lye soap. When he passed I was given several bags of soap that he had made. It's excellent for white laundry and for stains. Also great for any kind of skin issues.
