4 eggs, separated
½ c. combined orange and lemon juice (scant)
¾ c. cake meal
¼ tsp. salt
¾ c. chopped dates
¾ c. chopped nuts
¾ c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Rind of 1 lemon and 1 orange

Directions:
Directions:
Beat yolks until thick; add juice, then sugar. Beat until fluffy, add rind, then vanilla.

Sift meal and salt; fold into egg mixture; add dates and nuts until well blended.

Beat egg whites until stiff, not dry; fold in batter.

Bake in greased 9x9x2 inch pan at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. While warm, cut into bars; toast in oven. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
