I use my slow cooker and slow cook for approx. 4 - 5 hrs. It turns out perfectly every time. Start with 3 to 4 lb. round steak, approx. 1/2" thick . Pat dry and season with salt and pepper. Cut into serving size pieces. Heat slow cooker pan on stove top with 2T. oil. Place in meat and heavily brown. Quarter an onion and brown slightly with meat. For your gravy, put 5 - 6 T. flour in large glass and while quickly stirring add water. Enough to make a medium thickness. Add enough water to cover the meat and slowly add the flour mixture. Cook until desired thickness is achieved. I always add 2T. beef broth base (Orrington Farms is good) and salt and pepper to taste. Place on slow cooker base, on medium-high heat, and cook for 4-5 hrs. I serve it like my Mom did, with mashed potatoes, but noodles, rice or open-face are good too.
