1 cup soft shortening
2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
cup water, sour milk, or buttermilk
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
⅛ teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 400F. Mix shortening, sugar, and eggs until fluffy. Stir in water and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Stir into butter mixture. Drop with teaspoon onto an ungreased baking sheet. Place teaspoon of date filling on dough. Cover with a teaspoon of dough. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.

cup chopped nuts

Mix dates, sugar, and water in a saucepan. Cook until thick stirring constantly. Add nuts. Cool
