Karen Ogden, Student Nutrition

2 cups flour
2/3 cups sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder

3/4 cups butter or margarine
1 beaten egg
2 tsp vanilla

Filling of your choice (I used cherry preserves)

Sift together the flour, sugar and baking powder in mixing bowl
Blend together butter, beaten egg and vanilla in separate bowl.

Blend butter mixture into flour to form a dough with pastry blender.
Place on lightly floured board.
Divide dough into 4 parts.
Shape each into a roll 13" long and 3/4" thick.
Place on ungreased baking sheets 4" apart and 2" from edge.
Make a depression 1/4" deep down the center of each dough piece.
Fill depression with desired filling (preserves).
Bake in 350 F oven for approximately 15 to 20 minutes or until light golden brown.
Slice into diagonal bars while warm.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
