Directions:
Sift 3 1/2 C. flour, 1/2 t. salt....I suppose set this aside (hard to tell from mom's recipe!)
One pound 16 ounces orange slice candy cut into small pieces
8 oz. chopped dates
2 C. chopped pecans
1 C. coconut
add 1/2 C. flour mixture and use hands work flour through mixture.
Mix well, 1 C. butter softened (Mom used 1/2 C. butter and 1/2 C. Crisco)
2 C. sugar, beat well. (yes, the recipe says mix well and beat well so mix/beat it well!)
Then add 4 eggs one at a time beating well after each egg. Combine 1/2 C. buttermilk (mom used real buttermilk not the short cut you make with real milk!) and 1 t. soda, add alternating with flour mixture, add candy mixture. Bake in greased and floured (Baker's Joy is a wonderful thing) bundt pan. Bake in slow oven 300 degrees, one hour and 45 min. Remove from oven. Combine 1 C. orange juice and 2 C. powdered sugar, pour over hot cake. Remove from pan.
