2 C. Flour
1/4 t. Baking soda
1 t. Cinnamon
1 t. Cloves
1/2 t. Nutmeg
1/2 C. Shortening
2 C. Brown sugar
3 Eggs separated
1 C. Thick sour cream
Jar of applesauce

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, salt, soda, and spices together.

Cream shortening with sugar.

Add beaten egg yolks and beat thoroughly.

Add cream alternately in small amounts--beating well after each addition.

Beat egg whites until fluffy but not dry and fold into batter.

Pour into greased 9 x 9 pan.

Bake at 350º about 50 minutes.

Spread apple sauce on top of cake after cooking.
