1 cup sugar
1 cup molasses
1 cup lard or 1/2 of it butter
1 tsp. salt
1 egg
1/2 cup sour milk
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
3 tsp. soda
About 4 cups of flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, add sugar and molasses, add beaten egg; add milk and salt; mix flour, spices and soda gradually adding a cup at a time, mixing well each time. When stiff enough, roll out gently on a well-floured board to 1/3 inch thick; sprinkle with granulated sugar after cutting the cookies. Bake at 350.
