• ½ pound butter (2 sticks)
• ½ cup Crisco (Crisco only)
• 3 cups sugar
• 5 eggs
• 3 cups flour
• 1 cup milk
• ½ teas baking powder
• 1 ½ teas vanilla extract
• ½ teas lemon juice (optional)

1. Cream butter, Crisco, and sugar.
2. Mix in eggs, one at a time.
3. Stir in flour and milk alternately, and add baking powder with the last of the flour. Add flavorings.
4. Pour into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan.
5. Place in a cold oven. Turn the oven on to 350 degrees.
6. Bake one hour and 15 minutes. DO NOT OPEN THE OVEN DOOR – EVEN ONCE. When it’s done, remove from oven and let stand on rack to cool completely before removing from pan.
