2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
2 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk

1/2 tsp salt
4 tsp baking powder
4 cups flour

Directions:
Cream sugar, shortening, vanilla, eggs and milk together.

Add salt, baking powder and flour a little at a time. This makes a thick dough. Roll out to about 1/4 inch on a floured surface. Cut with a biscuit cutter.

Lay out on parchment paper on a cookie sheet.
Bake at 350º for about 10 minutes.

These are excellent to ice for Easter, Christmas, etc.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
One of Sarah's favorite treats at Christmas is the "sugar cookies" from Rao's Bakery. After investigating, I discovered the thick soft but crisp cookie is not a sugar cookie at all. It is a tea cake. My Aunt Susie used to make tea cakes and I just happened to have her recipe. So last year I tried to copy Rao's cookie using this recipe. The cookie is just as good - but I've got to work on that decorating thing!
