Bread and Butter pickles Recipe

20 medium cukes, thinly sliced
5 medium onions, thinly sliced
2 tbsp salt
1 tbsp turmeric
1 1/2 tbsp ginger
1 tbsp mustard seed
2 cups sugar
12 cassia buds (optional)
1 red pepper or pimento, well diced

Put cukes and onion in bowl with 1 tbsp salt.
Let soak 1 hr. Then drain well and rinse.
Use remaining salt and all remaining ingredients, then add vinegar.
Put cukes in large pot and pour mixture over it.
Bring to a boil.
Pour into hot jars and seal immediately.
