Notes: This dessert is how my grandmother was always prepared. If someone stopped in unexpectedly she could throw this together and make someone smile. I figured out how to alter this recipe when we went to Tennessee. You girls always loved dessert after a big dinner. We had to bring all of our food when we went to Tennessee because we stayed in a cabin, so this was easy to pack. I substituted a large can (or three small cans) of sliced peaches in fruit juice (not the heavy syrup) for the pineapple and pie filling. It tastes like peach cobbler. Yum! You can use any pie filling or canned fruit you desire - be creative and enjoy! I also use French vanilla cake mix. You could also substitute frozen and thawed fruit like blueberries and raspberries but you will need to add 1/4 cup of simple syrup (sweet) or apple juice for moisture. I find that canned fruit works the best.
