12 ounces Maraschino cherries with stems
2 cups finely crushed vanilla wafers
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup finely chopped nuts
½ cup light corn syrup
3 to 4 tablespoons 80 proof rum
Coatings: flaked coconut. chopped nuts, grated semi-sweet chocolate, or confectioners sugar

Directions:
Drain cherries. In a medium mixing bowl, stir together wafer crumbs and cocoa; stir in nuts and then corn syrup. Stir just enough rum to hold mixture together. Form mixture into 1 ½ inch diameter roll. Cut into 40 to 48 slices, one for each cherry. Press slice around cherry with stem exposed. Coat with your choice coating.
