1 C. shortening
1/2 C. brown sugar
1/2 C. white sugar
2 egg yolks, beaten with 1 T water (save whites for meringue)
1 t. vanilla
2 C. sifted flour
1 t. baking powder
1/4 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 C. nutmeats (optional)

Meringue
2 egg whites
1 C. brown sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Blend together shortening & sugars. Add egg yolks beaten with water & vanilla. Add flour, baking powder, soda & salt. Press dough into a 9x13" greased and floured pan. Sprinkle a package of chocolate chips, and nutmeats, if desired, over dough.
Cover with meringue made by: 2 egg whites beaten stiff, add 1 C. brown sugar. Bake 35-40 min. at 350 degrees. When cool, cut into squares.
