3/4 c. solid shortening
1/4-1/2 c. light or dark molasses
2 c. sifted flour
1 t. cinnamon
1/2-1 t. ground ginger
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. ground cloves
1/2 t. salt

Directions:
Directions:
In a large bowl cream together shortening & sugar. Add molasses & egg. Beat well. Sift together flour, soda, spices & salt, add to first mixture. Mix well; cover; chill. Form into 1" balls, roll each in granulated sugar & place on greased cookie sheets about 2" apart. Bake at 375 degrees 8-10 minutes.
