8 cups apples peeled and sliced
- cup sugar depends on sweetness of apples
cup flour
teaspoon cinnamon
teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 teaspoons butter
Water to wet your hands (explained in directions)
1 teaspoon sugar

2 pie crusts for a 9-inch pie

Preheat oven to 425F

Place apples in a large bowl. Sprinkle with sugar. Toss to coat. Taste to see if they are sweet enough. If not, add a bit more sugar.

Sprinkle flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla over apples. Toss to coat.

Place 1 pie crust into bottom of pie plate.

Pour apples into the pie crust.

Dot with butter.

Top with remaining pie crust. Crimp edges. Cut small slit in middle.

Wet your hands with water and gently place on pie crust just enough to moisten.

Sprinkle top with sugar.

Bake for 45 minutes, or until juice is bubbling out.

If crust starts to get brown, cover with sheet of foil.
