¼ c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg

1 c. water
1½ c. flour
¼ c. plus 1 T. cocoa
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla

Filling:
⅓ c. Carnation milk
⅔ c. Crisco
¼ tsp. salt
½ c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 T. water
¼ c. powered sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Beat shortening, sugar, and egg until creamy. Mix together flour, cocoa, and baking powder. Mix water and flour mixture alternately to creamed mixture, mixing continuously.
Fill cupcakes and bake at 350º for 15- 18 min. Cool completely.

Filling:
Combine carnation milk, Crisco, salt, sugar, and vanilla. Beat for 10 minutes with mixer. Add water and powdered sugar. Mix well.

Take a decorator tube and fill with filling. Push into middle of cupcake until you see some at surface.
Can frost with a buttercream style frosting,
Can use left over filling and add 2 T. warm water, and ½ c. ( or more) pwd. sugar.

Can use a chocolate cake mix to cut time.

This is a Dotson family favorite. Staci had these cupcakes for her 1st birthday, as did Sarah. We now use cake mix instead of the scratch chocolate. But actually I love the scratch recipe. It is a more dense brownie type cupcake.
