1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp soda
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp allspice
1 tsp cinnamon

Cream sugar and shortening; add beaten eggs. Sift dry ingredients together.

1 can blueberries, save juice
5 tbsp sour milk (buttermilk)

Directions:
Directions:
Open blueberries first and drain. Cover with about 1/4 of the sugar and let stand until last. Add the juice with sour milk (buttermilk) alternately with dry ingredients, and last of all, stir in blueberries by hand.

Makes two layers or one 9" x 13" pan. Bake at 350º for about 25 minutes.

This is an old recipe from Grandmother Bagwell. I think it would be good with a cream cheese frosting if you wanted to make the layer cake. I don't frost the 9 x 13 cake.
