⅓ cup shortening
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1⁄2 cup white sugar (reserved for coating raw dough balls)
1 large egg - beaten
1⁄4 cup molasses
1 3⁄4 cups all-purpose flour
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon cloves
½ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ cup sour milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, add brown sugar and blend well. Add eggs; stir in molasses. Mix dry ingredients and add alternating with milk. Refrigerate for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350°. Roll dough into small balls and roll in white sugar. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 9-10 minutes.
