Ingredients: 4 egg yolks ¼ cup sugar ½ teaspoon vanilla 4 egg whites ½ cup sugar ¾ cake flour ¼ teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder

Directions: |
Directions:1. Beat yolks until thick and lemon colored. Gradually beat in 1/4 cup sugar and the vanilla. 2. Beat egg whites until almost stiff; gradually add remaining 1/2 cup sugar and beat until stiff. 3. Fold yields into whites, then add sifted dry ingredients, folding in carefully. 4. Bake in wax paper or parchment paper lined 10x15 jelly roll pat at 375º - 12 minutes. 5. Loosen sides and turn out onto a towel sprinkled with powdered sugar. Remove wax paper from cake. 6. Trim crusts. Roll quickly with fresh sheet of waxed paper on inside of roll. Wrap in powdered sugar towel; cool. 7. Unroll and remove paper. 8. Spread with chocolate filling. Roll up. Spread outside with chocolate. |

Ingredients: 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch 1 1oz square unsweetened chocolate 1/8 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup boiling water 1 1/2 tablespoons butter 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:1. Mix cornstarch and sugar; add chocolate and salt. 2. Add water; cook until mixture thickens. 3. Remove from heat; add butter and vanilla. 4. Spread on cake while hot for a glossy frosting which remains soft and smooth. |
