1 pound ground beef
3 Tablespoons butter
1 #2 can tomatoes (2 1/2 cups)
2 medium carrots, sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1/2 cup diced celery
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup barley
2 bouillon cubes
2 1/2 cups hot water
2 cups diced potatoes

Directions:
Directions:
Brown meat in butter in 3 quart dish. Add all the remaining ingredients but the potatoes. Cover and simmer 1 1/2 hours. Add potatoes and simmer 1/2 hour longer. Serve in warm soup bowls garnished with butter dipped crackers. Serves 6. Good served with Molded Fruit Salad, Pecan Cookies and Coffee.
