2⅓ c. flour
⅓ c. granulated sugar
1 c. molasses
c. hot water
c. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground ginger
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 325
Grease and flour a square pan (9x9 in.)
In a large mixer bowl, beat all ingredients on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, for 30 sec.
Beat on medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally, for 3 min.
Pour into pan.
Bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 50 min.
Cool in pan for 10 min. before cutting.
Serve warm from pan with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
