Ingredients:  
1/4 cup oil
1 onion chopped
4 cloves of garlic or 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 #2 1/2 can tomato puree
1-12 oz can tomato paste
2-2 1/2 cans of water
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp pepper
2 1/2 tsp sugar (you can add more if you like a sweeter sauce)
1/8 tsp baking soda
3 bay leaves
1 tsp dried basil

Saute onions and garlic in oil. Add remaining ingredients and cook slowly for at least 2 hours. It is even tastier if you add your favorite Italian sausage ( 1 lb,, cut up if you use the links) This freezes well.
