2 c. flour
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
tsp. baking powder
tsp. ground cinnamon
tsp. ground cloves
tsp. ground allspice
1 c. unsweetened apple sauce
c. water
c. shortening (Crisco)
2 eggs
1 c. raisins (optional)
c. chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350
Grease and flour one 9x13 in. oblong pan or two 9 in. round pans.
In large mixer bowl on low speed, beat all ingredients, scraping bowl constantly for 30 sec.
Beat on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally, for 3 min.
Pour batter into pan(s).
Bake until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Oblong 55-60 min. Round 45-50 min.
Cool 10 min. in pan on wire rack. Then invert cake onto rack to cool completely.
Frost, if desired.
