Ingredients:
Ingredients:
12 apples - halved, peeled, seeded (I use the smallest Pampered Chef scoop to gently scoop out the seeds and create a hole for the butter

1/4 stick margarine (I use butter, but Grandma's recipe called for margarine. Also, I might end up using a bit more butter)

2 C. Brown Sugar
1/3 C. Corn Starch
1 tsp. Vanilla
1 C. Water

Directions:
Directions:
Place halved, peeled and cored apples hole-side up in 13x9 baking dish. I place small bit of butter in each of the holes of the apples

Place the last 4 ingredients into saucepan and bring to a boil. Pour over prepared apples and place in oven. Bake 45 minutes. About halfway through baking, I turn apples over gently to finish out baking.

Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Sauce will thicken as it continues to cool slightly. May be served cooled or warm (I prefer warm). I like to top with chopped walnuts or pecans before serving.

Personal Notes:
This is such a traditional dish I always enjoy making and it evokes fond memories of Grandma Bush. And of the many delicious meals we enjoyed at their home. It makes for a lovely side at Thanksgiving but should also be used any time of the year. I have served these in small sherbet dishes for presentation. Choose apples that will hold their shape well and are not on the tart side. Look for apples that are also good for pie baking.
