Devil's Food Cake Recipe

1 cup shortening
1¾ cup sugar
4 eggs
4 oz. melted unsweetened chocolate
2½ tsp cinnamon
2½ cups sifted flour
½ tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp. nutmeg
1¼cup buttermilk
2 tsp brandy extract

Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Blend in melted chocolate , flour, salt, baking powder, soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Combine buttermilk and extract. Add flour and milk alternately, adding flour first and last. Bake at 350 ºF for 25 minutes in four greased and floured 9-inch cake pans.
