1 cup soft shortening (part butter or margarine)
1-1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
scant 3 cups sifted flour
2 tsps cream of tartar
2 tsp baking soda

2 Tbsp cinnamon (try 1 Tbsp)
6 Tbsp sugar (try 3 Tbsp)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix thoroughly, first five ingredients. Sift together and stir in flour, cream of tartar and baking soda. Roll in balls the size of small walnuts. Roll around in mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until lightly browned, but still soft. These cookies puff up at first and then flatten out. Bake for 8-10 minutes until bottom is lightly browned.
