Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 12-oz packages of frozen raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and/or cherries, packed in syrup
1 cup water
2 Tbsp plus 2 tsp. cornstarch
sugar (optional)
Sweet cream or whipped cream (for serving)

Directions:
Directions:
Put the fruit and the cup of water in a large enamel or glass pot. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer gently until the fruit is very soft. Strain through a fine sieve and discard pits and seeds. Taste and add a little sugar if absolutely necessary. Pour the mixture back into the pot. Mix the cornstarch in 1/4 cup of cold water and add it to the fruit mixture. Bring the mixture to a boil again and boil for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove the kissel from the stove and pour it into a serving bowl. Cover the top of the bowl immediately with aluminum foil. Let the kissel stand until it has reached room temperature. It can then be refrigerated, still covered, until serving time.

Serve with sweet cream or whipped cream.

Makes 6-8 servings.
