Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 to 4 chicken breasts, browned and cut up (you can use other chicken parts)
Water to mostly fill Dutch oven with some chicken broth or bullion cubes

4 potatoes, peeled and cut up
Several carrots, peeled and cut in chunks until it looks like the right amount
Celery, sliced (optional)
Onion, chopped (optional)

Dumplings

1 ½ C flour
2 tsp. baking powder
¾ tsp. salt
3 T shortening
¾ C milk

Directions:
Directions:
Boil chicken in water/broth for a while (I’m guessing ½ to 1 hour), then add veggies and boil until veggies are done.

Mix dumpling dry ingredients, then cut in shortening. When evenly mixed, stir in milk. Drop slowly by spoonfuls into stew careful not to splash on yourself. Boil for 10 minutes uncovered, then cover and boil another 10 minutes or until dumplings are fluffy. I sometimes half again or doubled this recipe for the stew, as the family really liked lots of dumplings!
