1 c butter
1 ½ c sugar
3 large eggs (to ½ recipe use 2)
1 tbsp. vanilla
8 oz sour cream
5 c bread flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Beat butter with sugar until fluffy in large bowl of mixer. Beat in eggs, Beat in vanilla and sour cream and 2 cups of flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add more flour( about 1 c) to achieve a sticky dough. Divide in half and wrap in floured plastic wrap, several hours or overnight. More flour can be added later as you are rolling out. You can tint the dough at this point, or you can use royal icing to decorate after baking or paint with egg wash before baking.
Roll to ¼ " , use metal cookie cutter on well floured surface, grease and flour pans or use greased parchment. Bake at 375º for 8 minutes. Cool slightly before removing from pan. Hint: Transfer parchment paper to cooling rack. you can also form dough into a roll, chill well and slice to bake.

Makes about 5 dozen.
