Ingredients:
Ingredients:
½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
8 oz. pitted chopped dates
1 cup sugar
1 egg slightly beaten
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups rice krispies
½ cup chopped walnuts
coconut

Directions:
Directions:
Combine butter, dates, sugar and egg in top of double boiler. Cook until thickened stirring frequently and until it forms a soft ball when dropped in cold water (as you would testing fudge). Add vanilla. Cool then pour over the rice krispies and walnuts. Mix well and form into balls and then roll in coconut. This works better if you have a dot of butter in your hands (to keep mixture from sticking). Makes approximately 18-24 balls, depending on size.

Personal Notes:
Not sure where the recipe originate from. My mother, Merilda Bilodeau, used to make these all the time. My children and all of her other grandchildren always looked forward to this sweet treat!
