"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 sticks butter
1 cup Crisco
3 cups sugar
5 large eggs
3 1/2 cups cake flour like Swansdown
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup cocoa

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven 275.

Leave milk, butter, Crisco, and eggs out overnight.
Sift flour and cocoa. I measure after sifting and mix.
Cream butter and Crisco, then sugar. Add eggs one at a time and beat after each addition. Add vanilla.

Add flour mixture and milk alternating. Grease tube pan with butter and sugar. Cook at 275 for about 1 hour 30-40 minutes--you want to undercook so that center is fudgy. If you overcook it, throw it away

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This was Beau Dancy's wife, Page's, recipe but she has forgotten it so now it is MINE. This was one of 2 homemade iced pound cakes made for Alex and Wesley's birthday party (2 and 1 respectively) at Garden Hills pool. The cakes were the rave--at least for the parents!
