Fresh Bing Cherries (best in July)
1 cup sugar
Vodka (80 or 90 proof)

Wash cherries; remove stems and drain in colander. Use only ripe cherries that are not bruised.) Place in quart jar. Pour sugar over and fill jar with vodka. Place cap on jar very tightly and rotate until sugar is evenly distributed and beginning to dissolve. Turn jar over once each day for 7 days to completely dissolve sugar. Store away in a cool, dark place until Christmas. When ready to serve, drain well and discard cherries.
