Sliced apples
sugar,
cinnamon
Slices of buttered bread

Syrup
3/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water

Vanilla Sauce
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp vanilla
1 tbsp. butter

Directions:
Directions:
Peel the apples and cut into slices, removing the core
Place in a buttered baking dish.
Sprinkle with sugar mixed with cinnamon
Cut the bread in small cubes and put a layer on the apples
Repeat until dish is full , having the layer of bread on top

Boil the sugar and water for 5 minutes
Pour over the bread and apples
Bake 350ºF for 30 minutes
Best served warm with a vanilla or lemon sauce

Vanilla Sauce
Mix sugar and cornstarch together, add boiling water
Cook with constant stirring until thickened
Add butter, cool and add vanilla
Lemon sauce : Substitute the vanilla with 2 tbsp. lemon juice and 1/2 tsp grated lemon rind

This is an excellent use of apples that are getting old and wrinkled!!
