2 and ⅔ cup flour
1 tsp. nutmeg
¼ tsp. salt
1 cup butter, softened
¾ cup sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla


Frosting
2 T. butter softened
1 ¼c confectionary sugar
2-3 T light rum

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º

Stir together flour, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.

Cream butter, gradually adding sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture. Mix well. On lightly floured surface with hands roll dough into long ropes ½ " in diameter. Cut ropes in 3" lengths. Place 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheets and bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until light brown on bottom. Remove from pan to cooling rack. Cool completely. Spread with frosting; mark with fork tines to resemble bark. Sprinkle with nutmeg.

This is a recipe from Marylou Szydlowski who contributed so many favorite recipes to our cookie walk over the years. As I typed this in I see she used real rum in the frosting. I think I used rum flavoring and only 1 T not 2-3. Not wonder I liked her cookies so much.
