"A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner. "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside; "I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."--Jean Antheleme Brillat-Savarin, The Physiology of Taste

Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 c. white sugar
1 c. butter
1 egg
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. water
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2. tsp. cream of tartar
4 c. flour

Filling:
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1-2 tsp. water if needed

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the main ingredients and roll out the dough to about a 1/4 inch thickness. Spread the filling on top of the dough very thinly to cover completely. I sometimes find the filling a bit too thick to spread properly and add a few drops of water to make it a better spreading consistency. Roll up like a jelly roll and slice and bake at 350ºF. until done.

Note: Slicing these cookies can be a bit of a challenge if you don't want to flatten them too much. I have found that using a long piece of thread for slicing, wrapped around the roll and pulled tight will keep the cookies in a much more pleasing shape.
