Grandma Barney’s Rye Bread Recipe

Ingredients:  
1 package yeast
3¼ cups of warm water
¾ Tablespoon salt
2 Heaping Tablespoons of Rye flour
8 to 9 cups of flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the first 3 ingredients together
Add the rye flour to regular flour ( I leave the 9th cup of flour out unless the dough is sticky)
Add liquid and stir together.
Put dough on flour surface and knead until smooth.
Cover in greased bowl for 1 hour.
Punch bread down and knead again and cover and let rise for one hour.
Grease bread pans on the sides and bottom.
Flour the bottom of the bread pan. Not the sides!
Divide the dough into 2 pans cover and let rise for 1 hour.

Heat oven to 375º bake for 1 hour on bottom rack.

This rye bread recipe is a family favorite. It is wonderful toasted with jelly.
I had the privilege of making this bread with my Grandma Barney.
One hint my grandma told me was the more you knead your dough the better the bread
