Mix and set aside:
2 Tbsp yeast
½ c. rather warm tap water (but you don’t want to scald the yeast)
Beat together in large bowl until smooth:
2 c. scalded milk
1 c. butter, melted
1 c. sugar
1 egg
½ tsp. salt
1 tsp. cardamom*
2 c. flour
Add to large bowl & beat:
Softened yeast
5-6 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Knead 10 min. Put in a greased bowl and cover with a towel, set in warm place and rise until double (about 1 hour). Knead smooth. Divide into 6 pieces and roll thin-ish. Braid 2 loaves of 3 pieces. (or divide dough into more pieces and just braid smaller bread loaves). Put on cookie sheet. Cover and rise until double (40-60 minutes).

Beat: 1 egg.

Brush top with beaten egg. Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes.

*Cardamom can be expensive. Less expensive containers can be found at places like Waremart and Target. This bread can be made without cardamom.
