13x9 inch pan recipe


Ingredients:

* 2 cups all purpose flour
* 2 cups packed brown sugar
* 1/2 cup margarine or
butter softened
* 1 cup of coarsely chopped nuts
* 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
* 1 tsp baking soda
* 1/2 tsp salt
* 1 8 oz container sour cream
* 1 tsp vanilla
* 1 egg
* 2 cups finely chopped
and peeled apple

Directions:

Heat oven to 350*f. In a large bowl, combine flour and brown sugar. Beat on low speed to mix the two dry ingredients. Add the butter and beat on low speed until crumbly. Stir in the nuts. Press 2 3/4 cups of crumb mixture in bottom of ungreased 13 x 9 inch pan.
To the remaining mixture, add cinnamon, baking soda, salt, sour cream, vanilla and egg; mix well. Stir in the apples. Spoon evenly over crumb mixture in pan.
Bake at 350*f for 30 to 40 minutes or until tooth pick inserted in middle comes out clean. Cool 30 minutes and cut into squares. Serve warm or cold.
If desired serve with whipped cream or ice cream. Store in refrigerator.

* 2/3 cup ( 11 Tbsp) margarine
or butter softened
* 1 1/3 cup of coarsely chopped nuts
* 2 tsp cinnamon
* 1 1/3 tsp baking soda
* 3/4 tsp salt
* 12 oz sour cream
* 2 tsp vanilla
* 2 egg
* 3 cups finely
chopped and
peeled apple

Notes for both pan sizes:
A) Glaze recipe from Land O Lakes; Stir together 1 cup powdered sugar ,1 tsp vanilla and 1 1/2 Tbsp milk. Drizzle on cooled pan of bars prior to cutting into squares. The glaze is optional for these bars.
B) Toasted pecans; In a sauce pan melt 4 Tbsp butter , add 3 cups of pecan halves and stir over medium heat to coat and heat the nuts. Dump them on a cookie sheet and spread out in a single layer. Roast in a 300*f oven for 30 minutes. Remove and lightly salt with coarse salt if desired; cool completely and store in an air tight container. Coarsely chopped toasted pecans can be subbed for the raw nuts in these bars.
