2 quarts oil for frying
2 1/4 c flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1//2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 c sugar
1/4 c brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1/4 c milk
1 c unsweetened applesauce
1/2 tsp vanilla
powdered sugar

Directions:

Heat deep fryer to 375 degrees
Whisk together dry ingredients in order to the salt. In a large bowl, cream sugars and eggs until fluffy. Beat in oil. Stir flour mixture in the egg, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until well blended. Stir in applesauce and vanilla.
Carefully drop batter by Tablespoonfuls, 3-4 at a time, into hot oil. The doughnuts will turn themselves over when cooked on one side-- fry about 3 minutes total. Transfer with tongs onto paper towel to dry.
While still hot, roll in powdered sugar
