Directions:1.In a mixing bowl, add ¾ cup of milk, oil and sugar. Whisk until all the sugar has dissolved. Next add salt and baking powder and mix. 2.Add flour and mix with an electric mixer which has a dough hook or use your hands to knead the dough on a clean floured surface .If the dough is dry, add up to ¼.cup of milk and knead again to make a soft dough. 3. If the dough feels sticky add 1 tbsp. of flour until you get a soft dough that springs when you touch it. 4. Shape the dough into a ball. Coat the bowl with 1 tbsp. of oil and place the dough in the bowl. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it sit for about 15 minutes in a warm place.. 5 Divide the dough into equal 8 - 10 portions using a pastry cutter. Sprinkle flour on the dough balls and leave on the side again for 15 more minutes. 6 Heat a tawa or iron skillet with a handle on medium high heat Do not use a non stick tawa. 7. Flatten the dough portion with a rolling pin to about ¼.in. thickness. 8 If you want to make a Garlic Naan add sliced garlic, cilantro and onion seeds and press with a rolling pin to stick to the dough. 9 Apply water on the side that will stick to the skillet, ensuring that the garlic side is up. Once the dough starts to bubble, flip the skillet or tawa 10. Flip the tawa upside down directly on the flame and roast the top side of the Naan directly on flame till golden brown spots appear.. 11. Once both the sides are done, remove the Naan from the tawa with a spatula or a pain of tongs. 12. Apply butter on the warm Naan and cover with kitchen towel to remain moist. |
