5 quarts (1 1/2-3 inch in size whole cucumbers)
1/2 cup salt
8 cups sugar
6 cups vinegar
3/4 teaspoon turmeric
2 teaspoons celery seed
2 teaspoons whole pickling spices
8...1-inch pieces stick cinnamon
2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions:
Morning one:
Place cucumbers in large container (not metal) and cover with boiling water.
Night one:
Drain cucumbers
Morning two:
Drain cucumbers...Cover with boiling water
Night two:
Drain cucumbers, add salt.....Cover with boiling water...
Morning three:
Drain cucumbers.
Make syrup of 3 cups sugar and 3 cups vinegar...boiled together...
Pour this syrup over the cucumbers....
Night three:
Drain and save syrup from cucumbers...
To the saved syrup, add 3 cups sugar, 2 cups vinegar
and turmeric, celery seed, pickling spices, and cinnamon...
Boil together and pour this syrup over cucumbers...
Morning four:
Drain syrup from cucumbers into a pan...
Add 2 cups sugar, 1 cup vinegar, and vanilla. Heat to boiling.
Pack cucumbers in clean,hot, pint jars...and cover with boiling syrup....leaving
1/2 inch headspace at top of jars...Remove any air bubbles by inserting a tableknife or rubber spatula into jar and moving around to release air ...
Wipe tops of jars with clean, damp cloth...Adjust jar lids in place.
Process for 5 minutes in boiling water bath...(Water needs to cover jars by one inch or so.)
Water needs to be boiling for the full 5 minutes.
Remove jars and complete seals if necessary.
