Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2-3 potatoes
3 quarts water
1 tsp salt
Dough:
3 ½ cups flour
1 egg
1 tsp salt
1 ¾ cup lukewarm water
Peel potatoes and cut into cubes. Bring to boil in water & salt. Mix flour, egg, salt & water and make a stiff dough. Pinch off some dough and form it into a roll. Repeat this process until all the dough has been used. Cut dough from roll into small pieces with scissors or knife. Drop into boiling water with potatoes (potatoes should be almost done cooking). After it has boiled for several minutes or when the dough has cooked, drain water off knefla and potatoes. Melt 2 TBSP shortening in frying pan and brown some onions or bread crumbs. Pour onions over knephla and stir. This is good served with a side dish of sauerkraut, ham or weiners.
