Directions:Start early in the morning before day-light, Get out the old flashlight, Go find the old chicken and before he can crow Chop off his head and you're ready to go. Stoke up the fire till it's boiling hot. Take the old tough rooster and grind him real fine and Get the next ingredient ready in line. Take fifty pounds of Dog Chow and the rooster you've ground And dump it in the boiling hot pot and head for town, You Know for people it won't be fit to eat, But for Hound Dog food it can't be beat, Find someone who has an old Hound That won't do anything but lie around. Tell him you have some food for his old worthless Hound That won't do anything but lie around, Get him and his Hound and head for the wash pot And when you get there it won't be too hot, So feed the old Hound all he will eat and Maybe it will get him back on his feet; But if it dosen"t give him some get up and go, Maybe he'll at least sit down and crow....and Will will put him on his radio show. This Rooster Stew Recipe ain't worth a hoot But maybe it'll win the Saddle Shop loot; If I win the contest I'll give you my name and Come to the Saddle Shop for my claim, I know just what to do with the loot, I'll buy me a pair of those good Justin Boots. |

Notes: Will Paradeau was the owner of Slade Saddle Shop in Uvalde, Texas. He sponsored an early morning radio program for the area farmers and ranchers. When they went out of business, they wanted to "retire" the rooster that crowed, every morning to open the program. A gift certificate was given to the winner of the best recipe for rooster stew.......Larry WON!!! This was published in "The Oak Leaf", sponsored by: The Live Oak Chapter of The Poetry Society of Texas, Vol 1, 1980.
