9 canned peach halves
¼ cup softened butter
½ cup packed brown sugar
maraschino cherries


½ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups sifted CAKE flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
⅔ cup milk

Directions:
Directions:
Drain peaches.

Preheat oven to 350º

spread softened butter on bottom of deep 9" square baking pan.
Press brown sugar evenly on top of butter.
Arrange peaches , cup side down, on sugar mixture
Lay cherries in uniform pattern in between peach halves

Cream shortening, add sugar gradually - creaming thoroughly
Blend in well beaten eggs & flavoring
Stir in sifted dry ingredients alternating with milk, beginning & ending with dry mixture

Pour batter carefully over fruit

Bake about an hour.
Loosen sides of cake with a spatula & turn over pan immediately on to serving dish, allowing pan to rest over cake a few seconds to let syrup drain
