Ingredients: 5 small whole chickens (cut in half)

Directions: |
Directions:Baste chicken halves with Basting Sauce. Grill chicken for 30 minutes on a medium hot grill. Basting and turning often. Pull chicken off grill and place each half in heavy duty foil. Coat generously with basting sauce and seal tightly. Continue grilling chicken on lower heat for 30 minutes. Remove from grill. Open foil, flip chicken, and baste again. Re-seal and grill additional 30 minutes. Remove from heat. Open foil and check that chicken is done. If not done continue cooking, adding additional basting liquid as needed to keep chicken wet. If the chicken is done coat with finishing sauce. Re-seal and grill additional 15 minutes. |

Basting Sauce |

Ingredients: |
Ingredients: 2 1/2 c. vinegar 1/2 c. water 3 sticks butter 2 T. salt 2 tsp. pepper

Directions: |
Directions:Mix all together and warm in a saucepan until butter is melted. |

Finishing Sauce |

Ingredients: |
Ingredients: 1 stick butter 1/2 medium onion minced 8 oz. BBQ sauce of your choice 2 T. vinegar 1 1/2 T. brown sugar 1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce

Directions:Mix all together in a saucepan and warm until butter is melted. |

Notes: My dad got this recipe from Aunt Wanda Waggoner. Grandpa made this often when I was growing up.. The trick is to keep the chicken moist with the basting sauce.
