1/2 c. shortening
1-1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 oz. red cake coloring
2-1/2 c. flour
2 level Tbsp. cocoa
1/2 t. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tap. vinegar
1 tsp. soda

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar; beat in eggs, one at a time. Add cake coloring and beat well. Sift flour, cocoa and salt and alternately add with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Beat well afte~ each addition. Add vanilla and mix well. Mix vinegar and soda in a cup and stir into batter. Do not beat with mixer after adding
vinegar and soda, but stir into batter with a fork. Pour in 3 well-greased and floured pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. FROST: with Cream Cheese icing listed with Italian Cream Cake.
