2 large cans black beans
1 - 8 oz can tomato sauce + little water
2 T. cooking oil
Sofrito (diced onion, tomato, green pepper, garlic)
1-2 packets of Sazon
Adobo seasoning
cilantro and/or culantro

Directions:
Directions:
Saute the sofrito in oil for a few minutes until translucent.
Add the tomato sauce and a little water.
Add the beans (drained and rinsed)
Add the seasonings and chopped cilantro.

Cover and simmer for 30 min.

Another version:
Substitute black beans with Pinto or Pink beans.
Cook in a dutch oven and add one or two
ham hocks.
Cover and simmer for an hour or more.

Puerto Rican beans are typically not spicy but
if you want an added kick, use a can of
salsa con jalapeno or a few drops of picante.
